Nick Saban and his coaching staff targeted 2022 five-star dual-threat quarterback Gunner Stockton. Despite the recruiting efforts, Stockton announced via Twitter that he is committed to Alabama’s in-conference rival, South Carolina.
Stockton, who stands at 6-foot-one, 196-pounds, is currently ranked as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in Georgia, according to 247Sports. He held offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado State and Florida.
In 2019, Stockton threw for 3,472 Yards, 43 TD and 6 INT, he also added some yards on the ground, as he rushed for 1,179 yards and 16 TD.
While missing out on a five-star quarterback stings, Alabama won’t suffer from a depleted quarterback room. They currently have seven players on rosters, including redshirt-junior Mac Jones and five-star freshman Bryce Young.
