LSU football coach Ed Orgeron said on Tuesday that two or three players are currently out after testing positive for COVID-19.
Orgeron said the players were asymptomatic and in quarantine, but declined to name exactly who tested positive.
The Tigers head coach has said he expects there to be a spike in cases with students returning to campus, but that it’s their duty to” overcome it and flatten it out” so that there can be football on Sept. 26.
As has been his tune all offseason, Orgeron maintains optimism that there will be a 2020 college football season in the SEC.

“I am convinced we’re going to play,” he said, “and I think it’s the best thing to do, and I think it’s the right thing. But, again, I’m not a doctor and it’s not my decision. But I am convinced.”
LSU has had just two players opt out due to coronavirus concerns so far in defensive end Neil Farrell and cornerback Kary Vincent Jr.
The Tigers will also be without defensive lineman Justin Thomas, who recently departed from the team.
The Tigers are set to kick off the season against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sept. 26.
