At times it seems like it’s Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum’s world, and the rest of us are just living in it when ti comes to the Boston Celtics offense, and for former Charlotte Hornet and UConn standout Kemba Walker, that could potentially require a big adjustment.
Ever since his days as a Husky, through his whole NBA career to date, Walker has been the best player on his team for almost ever season he’s played high-level basketball.
This season, Tatum has passed him in the pecking order in terms of touches, and Brown may have by now as well.

That isn’t necessarily a problem, as it might have been for former teammates who will remain nameless.
Nor is it by chance, entirely — as Walker related after the team’s 109-101 win over the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the 2020 NBA Playoffs.
“Those two dudes are super special talents; they showed it today,” he explained. “Every big moment, they made big plays. Whenever we needed a big play, they made it. It’s just fin to watch. It’s really fun to be a part of their growth. Ultimately, they just continue to get better, which they’re doing.”
For Walker, who has had to put teams on his back so much it’s almost become second nature, the adjustment to a lesser role isn’t just okay — he welcomes it with open arms.

With just two postseason appearances before this one to his name in a pro career dating back to 2011, the New Yorker is more than ready to lay in the cut until his number is called, ceding touches to the two precocious wings on the come-up.
“I’m just playing the game.
“We all just playing the game, reading the game as best as we can. I didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, but I thought I got great shots. I got my shots, the shots that I usually take, the shots that I want. But whenever those guys have it going, we just want to keep going to them, and have those guys make plays and play off them.”
With veteran forward Gordon Hayward likely to miss games this series after a nasty sprain late in Monday’s win, Walker will likely have to shoulder a bit more of that load than perhaps he thought yesterday morning.

But then, that’s nothing new for the Bronx native.
And he’s still going to be called on to carry the team less than he ever has before.
