RB Josh Jacobs returns to Raiders training camp practice

During the first three days of media access, Josh Jacobs was not on the field. Now on the fourth day, after a day off on Saturday, Jacobs took the field for the first time in this phase of training camp.

I asked Gruden last week about whether players being “out” would be regular thing. He wanted to make it clear that these players were not “out” but just not on the practice field.

“They’re not out. They’re still working,” Gruden responded. “You don’t see them, but they’re working. They’re not out, they’re working in a different capacity.”

The fact that Jacobs addressed the media that day is an indication he was not “out” as well. He didn’t elaborate much as to exactly what the reasoning behind him not being on the field with his teammates either.

“That’s just the schedule that the trainers have me on right now. Some days I go in, some days I do less than others,” said Jacobs.

Gruden seemed to suggest it was at least in part to see other running backs get work. Or at very least, he was looking at the positive aspect of Jacobs not taking the field

“We need the time on task with some of these players who we have no idea about,” Gruden continued. “A chance to see Devontae Booker and Lynn Bowden Jr. Lynn Bowden is making the transition from quarterback to running back. Devontae Booker is learning a new system. Neither one of them took a snap in the offseason. I want to see them. I have stuff in here for Jacobs and some of the other guys, Trent Brown, to do right now.”

As he mentioned, Trent Brown was not practicing either. That continued to be the case Sunday.

It didn’t appear as if Jacobs was being eased back in. He had a couple runs and caught a dump pass out of the backfield as well.
