Steelers activate CB Justin Layne off reserve/COVID-19 list and release CB Breon Borders

The Steelers announced Tuesday the activation of cornerback Justin Layne off the reserve/COVID-19 list. They released CB Breon Borders.

On Tuesday, the Steelers activated second-year cornerback Justin Layne off the reserve/COVID-19 list where he was placed on July 29.

The Michigan State product played primarily on special teams his rookie season and is expected to provide depth behind Joe Haden and Mike Hilton in 2020.

If Layne can impress this season, he may be elevated to No. 2 on the 2021 depth chart as Mike Hilton’s contract expires in March.

The Steelers released cornerback Breon Borders to make room for Layne.
