Rockies at Mariners: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Ryan Castellani vs. LHP Nick Margevicius

Castellani will make his MLB debut as he fills in for injured SP Chi Chi Gonzalez. Castellani was called up despite struggling at the lower levels, posting a 28-43 record with a 4.80 ERA in six minor-league seasons.

Margevicius is also filling in for an injured starter —SP Kendall Graveman. Margevicius has made three appearances so far in 2020, pitching five innings with a 5.40 ERA and striking out five. The 24-year-old has made 17 career appearances, including 12 starts, and has a 2-6 record and 6.68 ERA.

Prediction

Rockies 11, Mariners 7

Moneyline (ML)

The Rockies (+100), who enter with a half-game lead in the NL West, have won 10 of their last 12 games. The Mariners (-112) have struggled out of the gate and are at the bottom of the AL West. Seattle is a slight favorite here because the sports betting market has a little more faith in its replacement starter over Colorado’s.

However, Colorado is first in runs scored per game, second in batting average and third in OPS. It is going against a Seattle pitching staff that ranks last in runs allowed, 26th in opponent’s OPS and 29th in homers given up.

BET THE ROCKIES (+100).

New to sports betting? A $100 bet on the Rockies to win returns a profit of $100 if Colorado beats Seattle.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

We are passing on the Rockies (-1, +120) run line and TAKING ROCKIES -1.5 (+145) on the alternate run line.

Colorado has crushed Margevicius in the past. It is slashing .511/.531/.915 in 47 at-bats against Margevicius. Also, Seattle’s bullpen ranks bottom 10 in ERA, opponent’s WHIP and batting average.

If the Rockies chase Margevicius early, the Mariners cannot expect much out of the bullpen. Additionally, Colorado has the best run line record in MLB (10-3) with a +2.5-run line margin.

Over/Under (O/U)

Seattle actually cashes more Overs (9-5-1 Over/Under record) than Colorado (4-8-1). Again, it’s because the Mariners’ pitching staff is getting shelled, so we are betting that the Rockies shell the M’s Saturday.

I am nervous that the market is on the Under (-121), but I still “LIKE” OVER 9.5 (+100), so I’m only putting a half-unit wager on it.

A $50 bet on Over 9.5 yields a $50 profit if the total score gets into double-digits.
