Celts president Danny Ainge happy NBC’s Abby Chin around to season end

Boston Celtics team president Danny Ainge added his voice to those who are happy to have NBC Boston’s Abby Chin around a little longer.

It isn’t just the fans that want Abby Chin to stay.

On Friday, Boston Celtics team president Danny Ainge weighed in on the news that — despite being laid off as part of big cuts from NBC Universal — NBC Sports Boston’s Chin would be sticking around at least until the end of the season.

Along with other Celtics media stalwarts Gary Tanguay and A. Sherrod Blakely, news that Chin would be laid off caused a massive stir in the greater Celtics community as fans and fellow journalists decried the move.

And while Blakeley and Chin will both be finishing the season covering Boston in the Disney ‘bubble,’ the push to keep Chin on the beat picked up a new supporter of note today in Ainge.

The Boston Globe’s Chad Finn wrote an op-ed petitioning the management to reconsider their call on Chin’s future covering the team, and the Celtics Wire adds their voice to the fray as well.

We know this is a tough time for every outlet, but this one stung too much — if you can find a way to keep Chin on board, NBC, you’ll earn a lot more good press than any marketing firm could buy you among Celtics fans worldwide.
