Take a look at that headline above and you’ll realize: holy cow, the St. Louis Cardinals haven’t played a game in nine days.
They were supposed to resume their season on Friday against the Chicago Cubs, but that game was postponed after yet another member of the organization tested positive for COVID-19 — per USA TODAY Sports, that’s eight players and 14 staff members in total.
With the Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies back up and running, the Cards are very much behind the 8-ball when it comes to making up games — their new schedule before the Cubs postponement included two doubleheaders against the Detroit Tigers, three doubleheaders against the Brewers and now, they may end up with another one with the Cubs:

But a twin bill against the Cubs only happens if the Cardinals are medically cleared. What if they aren’t? And that then raises the question about days off for St. Louis — as of now, they have two left the rest of the season. Is one going to have to be used for an extra game against the Cubs since they’ll be in Chicago again in early September?
Guess Jack Flaherty is going to have to continue using his hotel room as a bullpen again. What a mess.
