It’s late in the offseason, but the Vikings are still making moves to sign players. This time, the team is reportedly expected to sign a player who could fill out a linebacker depth role.
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, free agent linebacker Quentin Poling is expected to sign with Minnesota, pending COVID-19 testing and a physical.
Poling’s most recent team was the Raiders. He was originally drafted by the Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He also had a brief stint with the Falcons.
Poling projects as more of a player who could fill out the roster. It’s safe to say Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr will both be starters in 2020, barring anything unexpected. After that, the likes of Eric Wilson, Ben Gedeon, Cameron Smith, Troy Dye, DeMarquis Gates and others will compete for roster spots.
If Poling eventually signs with the Vikings, he will be among that group vying for the various positions down the depth chart. He could also fill out a special teams role.
