The Browns activated reserve quarterback Garrett Gilbert from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday. The move comes less than two full days after Gilbert initially went on the list, and the likely culprit is a false positive test.
Gilbert had passed at least five tests with the Browns since arriving in Berea in late July, but his test on Monday came back positive for the coronavirus. He was asymptomatic and tested negative again on Tuesday and Wednesday, which allowed him to emerge from the reserve list.
Gilbert is in his second season in Cleveland after being signed from the defunct AAF. The 29-year-old is fighting with undrafted rookie Kevin Davidson for the No. 3 QB job behind Baker Mayfield and Case Keenum.
