Ex-Broncos QB Brandon Allen signs with Bengals

Former Denver Broncos quarterback Brandon Allen has signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Chris Roling of Bengals Wire.

There are still six ex-Broncos players who remain unsigned free agents.

Allen (6-2, 209 pounds) is a 27-year-old veteran who entered the league as a sixth-round pick out of Arkansas with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016. Allen then spent two and a half years with the Los Angeles Rams before joining Denver last September.

Allen began last season as a backup and he started in three games in the place of an injured Joe Flacco from Weeks 9-12. Allen completed 46.43 percent of his passes for 515 yards with three touchdowns against two interceptions in 2019. The Broncos went 1-2 in Allen’s three starts.

The Broncos turned the offense over to Drew Lock in Week 13 and he went 4-1 as a starter to close out the season. Lock might have taken over sooner had he been healthy. Lock suffered a thumb injury during preseason and wasn’t activated from injured reserve until late November.

Lock will serve as Denver’s starter this season with Jeff Driskel serving as his backup. Brett Rypien will likely be a practice squad candidate.
