Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray had a fantastic rookie season, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. His performance was good enough that players around the league voted him into the NFL Top 100 Players.
Most are bullish about his future.
How long until he makes into top NFL quarterback lists?
Touchdown Wire’s Mark Schofield ranked the top 11 quarterbacks entering 2020 and Murray did not make the cut.
However, Patrick Mahomes is atop the list after his third season, Lamar Jackson sits at No. 3 after his second season and Deshaun Watson is fourth after three seasons.
Murray is believed to be a talent as dynamic as those three.
The Cardinals have surrounded him with more talent, re-signing Kenyan Drake and trading for All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and the defense should be better than a season ago.
And based on recent history of quarterbacks in their second year (see Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Mitchell Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson), Murray could be on the verge of a special season.
If he can throw for more than 4,000 yards, rush again for more than 500 and throw around 30 touchdown passes, it is hard to believe that he wouldn’t be on this same list a year from now.
For now, he just has to wait and let his play speak for itself.
