UPDATE: Raiders trade DT P.J. Hall to Vikings for future late-round pick

Early on Monday morning, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Raiders released defensive tackle P.J. Hall. But before the move became official, the Raiders were able to find a trade partner for Hall, sending him to Minnesota for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Vikings were willing to surrender a meaningless pick in order to circumvent the waiver wire process. According to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, the pick is contingent on Hall being on the roster for six games in the 2020 season.

Given the Vikings’ depth chart on the defensive line, it’s certainly not a given that Hall will even make the team’s initial 53-man roster. Instead, it’s more of a “tryout” that could cost the Vikings nothing in the nd.

Hall was a former second-round pick by the Raiders in the 2018 draft, but never was able to find a role on the defense. After showing up to camp out of shape, Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden decided to move on. Hall finished his Raiders’ career with 1.5 sacks on 1,062 snaps.
