Bears fans might not have to deal with Packers QB Aaron Rodgers much longer

Bears fans should breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Aaron Rodgers’ time in Green Bay is almost done with the arrival of Jordan Love.

Chicago Bears fans have had to endure 12 years of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers getting the best of the Bears in the NFL’s oldest rivalry. At times, it’s felt like a one-sided rivalry, not in Chicago’s favor. But that could be coming to an end.

Rodgers appeared on the “10 Questions with Kyle Brandt” podcast on The Ringer, where he discussed a variety of topics. But the most obvious topic of conversation between Brandt and Rodgers was the Packers’ decision to draft Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the first round. Which begs the question: Will the Packers move on from Rodgers in the near future or will they keep their first-round pick off the field instead?

“I think probably the first, the former,” Rodgers said. “I think that’s probably what happens.

“You know, based on just the circumstances around everything when you just look at the facts. They traded up, they drafted him. I would say they like him, they want to play him.”

Rodgers himself sat for three years behind Hall of Famer Brett Favre before he finally saw the field. But Rodgers understands that first-round picks — especially quarterbacks — don’t sit nowadays.

“It’s a different environment,” he said. “In 2005, my first year we were 4-12, second year, we were 8-8. There wasn’t a clamoring to play me because it was normal for young guys to sit. In the third year, ’07, we go 13-3. We’re one play, we’re overtime in the NFC Championship playing at home against the Giants from going to the Super Bowl. Different scenario. Now, I think quarterbacks are playing earlier. It gives some latitude for young coaches and GMs to play their guys. And I get it. I really do.”

Brandt, a noted Bears fan, couldn’t help but ask about Rodgers potentially being in a Bears uniform when his time in Green Bay comes to and end. A thought that Rodgers laughed at.

“Oh man, that’s a tough thought right there, man,” he said.

But Bears fans should breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Rodgers’ time in Green Bay is almost done. Love will be Rodgers’ successor, but it should be a fresh start for the Bears in the NFL’s oldest rivalry. Because there’s no way the Packers will get lucky with three Hall of Fame quarterbacks in a row, right?
