LSU fifth-year senior tight end Jamal Pettigrew has entered the transfer portal officially entered the transfer portal as of Saturday, as originally reported by Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

Pettigrew’s role at tight end heading into 2020 would have been limited due to five-star freshman Arik Gilbert likely becoming the Tigers’ main tight end this season.
During his time at LSU, Pettigrew has two career receptions for 17 yards. He joins linebacker Marcel Brooks and safety Eric Monroe as former LSU players that have entered the transfer portal.

Last season, Pettigrew competed for the starting role at tight end until Thaddeus Moss was named the starter.
In his four years at LSU, Pettigrew has mainly been used as a rotational tight end, and only came away with two receptions.
The choice to enter the transfer portal still gives the fifth-year senior the option to return to the team.
It is hard to see Pettigrew returning to the team if he would barely see the field. With so much depth and talent at the position, the Tigers are primarily set on which player will take the main role.
It will be interesting to see whether Pettigrew transfers elsewhere or chooses to return to LSU and compete for a back-up role to Gilbert in 2020.
