Whether it was superstition or simply time to get serious in the hot Florida weather, Boston Celtics All-Star swingman Jayson Tatum chopped off his curls.
The curly haircut got him a lot of attention, though it was probably what he had been up to on the court before growing those flowing locks that’s been drawing the sort of attention which led to one of his worst-shooting nights of his career vs. the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.
In a tweet from Boston Celtics beat reporter Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe (a must-follow as the only Celtics beat writer in the Disney ‘bubble’), the Duke product can be seen putting up shots at shootaround ahead of the Portland Trail Blazers game.
Biggest #Celtics pregame development? Jayson Tatum got a serious haircut. Also, this is a BOS home game. pic.twitter.com/ImUK2w0dD8

With a dome as fuzzy as a peach, those big, wavy curls have been evidently left behind somewhere on the Disney NBA campus.
Whether we see something like a reverse-Samson effect by the new ‘do, or it was just Tatum feeling his long hair phase should have ended with his quarantine, we won’t know for some time.
But it’s pretty likely that whatever the reason, he’ll put up a better stat line than Friday.
