When talking about the Philadelphia 76ers, one topic of conversation that always comes up is the dup of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. They get tons of questions about whether they can truly win together or can they co-exist despite having already tons of success together at such a young age.
The two of them have had high offensive ratings in the past due to the correct pieces being around them on offense. They had shooters like JJ Redick and Robert Covington and then a legitimate playmaker in Jimmy Butler in the past before those guys were replaced with Tobias Harris and Al Horford. The fit is clunky and that is why Simmons and Embiid have appeared to drop off a bit in 2019-20.
A lot of people also seem to forget the ages of the young duo. Emphasis on young as Simmons is 24 and Embiid is 26. It takes guys time to lead a team to a championship as proven by Michael Jordan in The Last Dance.
Embiid joined the famed podcast The Rights to Ricky Sanchez to discuss his relationship with Simmons thus far:
This what our third year together, playing? I mean, a lot of people always expect, like we’ve only played for three years and the potential that we have. I love him and I want to be with him for the rest of my career, because I think he still has a lot of potential and me too like we can get so much better than we are right now and I don’t see the point of ever playing with somebody else, so that’s someone that I’d love to be playing with for the rest of my career.
