I have a feeling we’re seeing the birth of a new NBA meme in real time.
On Tuesday, LeBron James met virtually with reporters, and immediately, there were screen shots of the Los Angeles Lakers megastar known as King James sitting on what appeared to be a throne.
Of course, it was not a throne. It was a chair in the Disney World hotel that he pulled up and sat in for the interview, claiming he needed a lower chair to sit in and it was “one of these hallway chairs everybody sits in.”
That didn’t stop everyone from pointing out the resemblance and making jokes — that included James — though:
LeBron said he needed a lower chair before his interview. Told by @LakersReporter that it looked a bit like a throne, LeBron chuckled and said, "Absolutely not. It's one of these hallway chairs everybody sits in." pic.twitter.com/oZRVO1HBiB

LeBron wanted to sit lower so he could ice his feet while being interviewed today so they grabbed this chair from the lobby. First zoom questioner began by noting … it kind of looks like a throne. pic.twitter.com/so7ZIsAjSK

LeBron, moments later with Frank Vogel sitting in a different, smaller chair. “Aw, they took away the throne!” 😂 https://t.co/nWo4pO0KIc
