The Miami Dolphins have enjoyed a great deal of success against the New York Jets as of late. Miami is 6-2 against New York over the last four seasons — and their most recent loss was a 1-point content in which the Jets needed an egregious penalty call against the Dolphins defense to extend their game-winning drive. All of that success against the Jets in the last four years has come despite the presence of safety Jamal Adams — who ironically enough missed the Jets’ most recent win against Miami in December of 2019 and is 1-4 all-time playing against the Dolphins.
This morning, we arise to a Jets team that does not have Jamal Adams on the roster. And, despite a strong first effort in the 2020 NFL Draft from GM Joe Douglas, Miami fans should feel very optimistic about the short-term outlook of playing the Jets. Even if the Jets got significantly better this offseason, which they didn’t, the Dolphins are a team that is also greatly improved and still nearly swept the Jets off of quarterback play and coaching alone.
Now, with the Jets looking at a future without Jamal Adams and with former Dolphins head coach Adam Gase still at the helm, it is difficult to envision New York enjoying a successful 2020 season.
Miami draws the Jets for consecutive games this season — with both teams enjoying a bye week in between the first and second matchup. Miami should expect to win them both. Of course the Dolphins will still need to execute and avoid overlooking the Jets. But based on roster talent (especially now, sans Jamal Adams) and coaching, the Dolphins are far and away better aligned as a collective group. That isn’t to say Miami should dismiss the Jets in the long-run. But in the here and now and for the 2020 NFL season, the Dolphins have significant advantages against the Jets that should make the Dolphins favored to win both contests this season.
