Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro earned the start on Saturday and recorded 20 points during a 101-99 loss against the Utah Jazz ahead of the season restart this month at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Herro also added seven rebounds and four assists in nearly 31 minutes of work in the Heat’s second scrimmage game. He finished by shooting 8-of-16 from the field but struggled once again from 3-point range, making just one of five attempts.
Despite struggling from beyond the arc, Herro continued a strong run thus far in scrimmage play. He scored 15 points on Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings and looks to be in great shape. He has been tasked with being the primary ballhandler, a role he has filled well.
Heat teammate Jimmy Butler said this week that Herro is very capable of being the primary ballhandler. Butler said he is confident when Herro has the ball in his hands, adding that he is comfortable in whatever role he plays on the court.
While Herro continued his strong play, fellow rookie Kendrick Nunn made his return to the court on Saturday. Nunn recently joined the Heat at Disney and missed the team’s first scrimmage game. He scored five points and three assists in 18 minutes of work.
