One of Auburn’s seniors is being recognized for his work off the field.

Chandler Wooten was named to the 2020 Wuerffel Trophy watchlist on Thursday. The award honors team leaders in college football, referred to by the organization as “College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service.”

Wooten, who graduated in 2019, has been outspoken about racial and social inequality in recent months.

Auburn has had two semifinalist in former players Derrick Brown and Daniel Carlson but has never had a winner.

Wooten enters his senior season with 43 tackles through three seasons as a rotational linebacker. He is coming off of his best season yet, when he played in all 13 games, recorded 27 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss, an interception and a fumble recovery.
