Celtics’ Tremont Waters ‘in latter stages’ of concussion protocol

Rookie Boston Celtics two way player Tremont Waters was revealed to be in the latter stages of the NBA’s concussion protocol by coach Brad Stevens.

While Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens has suggested rookie two way player Tremont Waters will likely see some action in the upcoming trio of scrimmage exhibition games facing the Celtics starting this Friday, he might not be ready to face off against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first of the three games.

Speaking at Monday’s post- practice media availability session, the Celtics coach revealed that Waters had hit his head at some point in a recent practice, and would be out while he waited to be cleared for a return to play.

“Tremont has a concussion from three or four days ago, and so he’s at the latter stages of concussion protocol with his stuff, but he hasn’t been cleared,” explained Stevens fresh off of complimenting the play of the team’s second unit in practice.

At present, no further details are available about the Connecticut native’s status in terms of his injury or future availability, but from the sounds of it he’s almost back to normal status.

To clear the fairly stringent protocol, one must be able to positively respond to a series of cues designed to prevent players from going back to work before they are fully healed.

In even a fairly light contact sport like basketball, repeated collisions or trauma to the head can have very severe effects long term if not cared for properly, but in this case it simply sounds like the team is moving forward with an appropriate level of caution.
