Tacko Fall learning to be ‘best rim protector’ he can be at Disney

Boston Celtics two way center Tacko Fall is working becoming the best rim protector he can be at the Disney restart.

You might think life in a hotel room small by even shorter NBA player’s standards might be taxing on a 7-foot-5 big man, but Boston Celtics two way center Tacko Fall is soaking in the Disney NBA restart so far.

“It’s going well; I’m just trying to pass the time, trying not to stay in my room most of the day when we’re not working out or practicing,” he related at Monday’s post-practice media availability session. “They’re making sure we’re getting everything we need, so no complaints.”

In fact, the gregarious fan favorite shared the experience has helped the high-chemistry Celtics get even closer, if that can be believed. “We were close before we got here,” he explained.

“Coming here helped create more balance, but we were already close before.”

Fall explained he’d been spending most of his time with Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and especially Marcus Smart; “I’m around him all the time.”

“It’s a blessing just being around them and practicing with them every day, a lot of them are great players,” he added. “I’ve been fortunate to be on a great team.”

“Every single one of them bring brings a lot to the game and I’m just trying to learn as much as possible for them and for me. Just focus on what my job really is when I step on the court, especially right now, [it] is to be the best rim protector that I can possibly be and being around these guys, all of them are good players, good finishers, I’m just trying to get that timing right, and it’s been great.”

I’m seeing myself getting even better, during this last practice,” he added.

While we all want to see as much of the Senegalese center as possible, it’s unlikely we’ll see Fall on the floor outside of the scrimmages and the occasional garbage time deployment barring injury.

Fall might surprise and get some spot minutes in the restarted season against teams with big front lines if he’s made the kind of progress in his conditioning and skill training that will allow him to do more than be an intimidating presence in the paint.

But, for the popular two-way player, the restart is more about getting reps for the future. Even still, there are likely to be those “We want Tacko!” chants coming from the sidelines at any opportunity it’s feasible.

Beloved among his teammates as much as his fans, the UCF product seems determined to make a regular roster, and a good showing in the Disney restart could go a long way towards making it happen.
