The Miami Dolphins are hoping that running back Jordan Howard will be able to breathe plenty of life into their dormant rushing attack. Miami’s inability to run the football in 2019 had a crippling impact on their offensive consistency at times — and even when things were going well for the Dolphins offensively it never came courtesy of the ground game.
Howard is expected to change that, as he’s been a bell cow back for several Chicago Bears teams in the past. The fit between Howard and the Dolphins’ new offensive approach felt like a great fit for all involved, which Howard himself confirmed to Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel during a recent interview.
“I just liked the opportunity (Miami) presented,” said Howard. “I felt like we’re turning things around down here, I just wanted to be a part of that. I was part of a turnaround in Chicago, so I embrace those type of things.”
If Howard is looking for a rebuilding challenge, he’s certainly come to the right place. No NFL team has more improvement awaiting for them in the run game and the Dolphins, as Howard mentioned, are in the process of turning things around on the whole. And, despite Howard’s regression over his last two seasons from a statistical standpoint, he’s confident entering the 2020 season that he’s got the ability to fill the void in Miami’s run game.
“I really don’t have anything to prove to anybody, just to myself that I can still be that type of player,” said Howard. “(I) just feel like I’m one of the top backs in the game, even if people don’t give me respect or credit or anything like that.”
If Howard is able to breathe life into the Dolphins’ rushing attack, he’ll get plenty of respect from the Dolphins faithful — who watched the Dolphins flounder on the ground for all of last year.
