As professional and collegiate sports continue to work toward a return, and the Coronavirus pandemic grows within the United States, the cloud of uncertainty surrounding the 2020 NFL season is becoming more real.
Teams, such as the Philadelphia Eagles announced that the season will be played without fans in the stadium. The Miami Dolphins went public with their decision to withhold fan attendance at preseason games and training camp, as well as prohibiting tailgating throughout the 2020 season. The team has not yet come to a decision on whether a limited number of fans will be allowed in the stadium.
The NFLPA and the NFL continue to sort out the specifics of how the upcoming season will transpire, the NFL’s latest proposal allows players to opt out of participating in the 2020 season if they don’t feel comfortable playing in the current environment due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that if players decide to opt out of the season, they must deliver a written notice to the league by Aug. 1.
Chris Cabott, of Steinberg Sports & Entertainment, represents former Alabama star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is now a member of the Miami Dolphins and former Crimson Tide wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, a member of the Denver Broncos.
Cabott claims Tagovailoa and Jeudy have elected to participate and will not be opting out of the 2020 season.
“We haven’t had any clients, at this point, considering opting out,” says Cabot. “None of our guys, we have about 23 guys active, none of them are looking to opt out.”
