The 2011 college football season for the LSU Tigers saw the program go undefeated in the regular season and advance to the BCS National Championship.

The Tigers opened their season ranked No. 4 in the country with a matchup against the No. 3-ranked Oregon Ducks at the 2011 Cowboys Classic in Arlington, Texas.

LSU defeated the Ducks, 40-27 in a statement victory. Tigers running back Michael Ford rushed for two touchdowns and Spencer Ware ran for 99 yards on 26 carries with one touchdown.

LSU quarterback Jarrett Lee finished the game 10-of-22 passing for 98 yards and one touchdown.

Oregon led 6-3 after the first quarter, but the Tigers had the 16-13 halftime lead as they outscored the Ducks, 13-7 in the second quarter.

LSU’s first touchdown of the game came on Tyrann Mathieu’s fumble recovery after Oregon running back Kenjon Barner fumbled a 55-yard punt.

Mathieu’s historic fumble recovery is just one of many plays that highlighted his Tigers career and made him such a great and versatile athlete.

LSU scored 14 points in the third quarter and held the Ducks scoreless to take a 30-13 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Tigers scored 10 points in the final quarter of play, and ended up with the 13-point victory.

LSU forced four turnovers, but gave up 335 total yards of offense to Oregon.

The LSU offense only amounted for 273 yards of offense and held the ball in their possession for 19 minutes and 44 seconds during the game.

Oregon finished the 2011 season with a 12-2 record, while the Tigers went 13-1 with the lone loss coming to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game.
