Titans’ Kevin Byard gets top-5 safety rating in ‘Madden NFL 21’

Kevin Byard is getting some respect with his “Madden NFL 21” rating.

As the player ratings for the latest installment of the ‘Madden NFL’ video game franchise continue to come out, we got a look at where Tennessee Titans safety Kevin Byard stacks up against other players at his position.

Byard has been given an overall rating of 91 in “Madden NFL 21”, the fifth-highest rating among all safeties in the game.

It’s nice to see Byard getting some respect, especially after the game completely botched his face last year.

After being drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft in what was one of the best selections of the Jon Robinson era, Byard has become one of the best safeties in the NFL — and the numbers bear that out.

Among safeties, Byard has earned the fourth-best overall grade in the NFL since 2017, per Pro Football Focus. He also has a Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro selection under his belt.

Byard was rewarded for his elite play prior to the 2019 season when the Titans signed him to a five-year, $70.5 million contract, which at the time was the richest contract for a safety in NFL history.

Going into 2020, the Titans are going to need more than just Byard’s top-notch play, though.

The safety is going to be called upon to become more of a leader than ever before, as Tennessee saw the departure of multiple key veterans during the offseason, like Jurrell Casey, Logan Ryan and Delanie Walker.

But from what we’ve seen thus far in his career, Byard is up for the challenge, having already assumed and thrived in a leadership role in the past. The Titans couldn’t have asked for a better face-of-the-franchise kind of player than Byard has been during his career.
