B/R has Bears targeting top QB prospect in new 2021 mock draft

Given the questions at quarterback heading into this season, many mock drafts have the Bears targeting a QB in 2021.

There’s been a trend with the Chicago Bears and early 2021 mock drafts. Given the questions at quarterback heading into this season, many mock drafts have the Bears targeting a quarterback in the lower half of the first round.

In Bleacher Report‘s latest mock draft, that trend continues as they have the Bears selecting Georgia quarterback Jamie Newman at No. 14.

Newman, a transfer from Wake Forest, has a big-time arm and athleticism that should be fun to watch — assuming the 2020 college football season happens. Last year, Newman passed for 2,868 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions at Wake Forest.

The quarterback situation remains the biggest question for the Bears heading into the 2020 season. Incumbent starter Mitchell Trubisky will battle Nick Foles for the starting job. Although, given the shortened offseason and at minimum a two-game preseason, it doesn’t give Matt Nagy a lot to work with in choosing his starter.

The hope remains that Trubisky finally puts it all together, but that’s not exactly the trend at present.

For the first time in three years, the Bears will have a first-round draft pick — at least as of now. Which gives them an opportunity to land a top talent, depending on where they finish the 2020 season.

But if the Bears have issues at quarterback after 2020, chances are they’ll be in a prime position to land a top quarterback prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft.
