Smart OK with snitching in ‘bubble’; thinks most ‘trying their best’

Boston Celtics veteran guard Marcus Smart thinks snitching is okay in the Disney ‘bubble,’ but believes most of his peers’ are doing their best.

While there may be contexts where the adage “snitches get stitches” holds water, for veteran Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart in the Disney ‘bubble,’ snitches are simply a necessary evil for everyone’s well-being.

Speaking at Wednesday’s post-practice media availability, the Texan guard shared his thoughts on the fact players are already calling one another out for rule infractions on Disney’s NBA campus, according to multiple reports on the matter.

“I’m cool with it,” he explained, “but we’ve got guys that probably don’t think that this is the right thing to do.”

“I don’t know the right idea [regarding how to deal with players breaking rules] — I don’t think [anybody] does, and this is why it takes everybody to get this done [with] us being here. This is our first time ever doing this, so we knew coming into it, that it was going to be new.”

We knew coming into it, things aren’t going to go as perfectly as planned,” he added. “I don’t think it was that many guys that was breaking the rules or trying to break loose or accidentally broke the rules.”

The Flower Mound native was careful to note he wasn’t even sure how to be a snitch, if he ever needed to be, however.

“I don’t even know who to text and who it was and stuff like that, but we are new coming into, it was going to be a challenge and it was it was all new to everybody so we’re all trying our best.”

Following the rules of the Disney restart will be absolutely critical to it not getting shuttered as the season did in March, and players and staff holding each other accountable will be an important part of that process.

Most players who have made the commitment to travel to the central Florida location are, as Smart suggests, simply trying to do their best while learning the rules of this extraordinary situation on the fly.
