Signing WR Terrelle Pryor would make sense for retooling Patriots

Pryor would make sense for a retooling New England organization

The New England Patriots have retooled their roster this offseason and it appears they are looking for more help at the wide receiver position.

According to a report from TMZ, Terrelle Pryor’s representatives have been in contact with several NFL teams, including New England. Pryor hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2018 season, but he did manage to have some success. The wide receiver’s career is somewhat impressive, given the fact that he played quarterback at Ohio State.

Pryor’s best season as a wideout came in 2016, when he caught 77 receptions for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns. He has been bitten by the injury bug over the course of his career. The 2016 season is the only season to this point in his career where he played all 16 games.

New England should take a chance on Pryor. The addition of Cam Newton allows for the offense to take chances and feel comfortable in doing so. Taking chances with a younger quarterback like Stidham would not necessarily be advisable. If New England were to at least bring in Pryor, they could possibly recapture the magic of Pryor’s 2016 season. they can afford to take on project-type players in a season like this one.

Pryor would add a deep threat and an athletic weapon. Those are two things that New England could always use. With the way that Newton can throw the deep ball, Pryor could be a great fit schematically for this offense. With his athleticism and the way that he can get down the field, Pryor does have the ability to turn small plays into big ones. He is not going to be the fastest receiver in NFL history, but he does have the athletic ability that allows him to spread the field.

Yes, he hasn’t played since 2018. However, the Patriots could definitely use a healthy Pryor at wide receiver. In six games in the 2018 season, he averaged 15.8 yards per reception. In a year where things look different, the organization needs to leave no stone unturned as they prepare for the future.
