Attention all gamers! The latest edition of the Madden franchise is right around the corner — which means it is time to reveal some of the grades assigned to a slew of the league’s newest star players via the NFL Draft. EA Sports released the first collection of rookie ratings for this year’s game yesterday — highlighted by the quarterbacks of the 2020 NFL Draft.
For Dolphins fans, this year’s team is probably going to be a lot more fun for you to play with than the ‘Madden 20’ edition was — in which the Miami Dolphins were comfortably the worst team in the game.
The new-look Dolphins are highlighted by Tua Tagovailoa, who was granted a 73 overall rating from Madden ahead of the release of this year’s game. That rating is good for the second best score among rookie passers (trailing Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow) and tied for the second-best grade assigned to a rookie quarterback over the last two years (with Arizona’s Kyler Murray, who also received a 73 overall rating to open last year’s game).
If Madden’s ratings are any indication (they’re not, but we digress), the Dolphins made the right choice with the No. 5 overall pick. Fellow rookie quarterbacks Justin Herbert (70 overall) and Jordan Love (71 overall) failed to meet the ranking of Tagovailoa; both were rumored to be in consideration for Miami at different points throughout the pre-draft process.
Tagovailoa, Love and Herbert were three of the rookie quarterbacks spotlighted by EA Sports to mark the release of the first rookie grades — each was joined by Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young to overview their individual ratings in certain categories before their overall grades were revealed. Don’t worry though, Dolphins fans. Tagovailoa is confirmed to be a much better quarterback than he is at guessing his ratings for this year’s Madden game!
