As one of the nation’s top defensive prospects, Smael Mondon has had a busy 2021 recruiting cycle. The Dallas, Georgia prospect released his top five schools and it was a list full of SEC programs.

Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee are still in the running for the 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect. Mondon is rated the No. 2 outside linebacker, No. 3 player in Georgia and No. 26 prospect in the country per the 247Sports Composite.
Mondon stars in all three phases of the game for Paulding County High School, but his athleticism will translate well as an outside linebacker at the college level. Tennessee has assigned inside linebackers coach Brian Niedermeyer and defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley as Mondon’s primary recruiters.
Niedermeyer and Ansley are two of the best recruiters on Tennessee’s staff, and it is clear the Vols are prioritizing Mondon. A commit from the 5-star would be a massive boost for Tennessee’s 2021 class which currently is ranked the No. 4 class in the country.
