Even after both FBI and NASCAR investigations revealed that driver Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. was “not the target of a hate crime” at Talladega — that a noose found in his team’s garage had been there since October, 2019 — that didn’t detract from the incredible moment in which fellow drivers and team members walked Wallace’s car to the front of the GEICO 500 field.
Driver Jimmie Johnson said as much last month in a tweet: “I’m still so proud of how our sport came together yesterday.”
In a tweet sent on Monday morning, President Donald Trump asked if Wallace had “apologized” to those drivers and team members, calling the incident a “hoax,” despite the fact it was not a hoax.
Driver Tyler Reddick responded to Trump on Twitter with this:
We don’t need an apology. We did what was right and we will do just fine without your support. https://t.co/1iboOu4vTk pic.twitter.com/Dj5dz01VR2

He also retweeted this from FOX Sports reporter Bob Pockrass:
There is nothing to apologize for when:
–Taking a perceived threat seriously
–People show support for one another
–Making policy to be more inclusive & more welcoming
–Doing what you feel is right, regardless of any perceived business consequences— Bob Pockrass (@bobpockrass) July 6, 2020
