Jorge Masvidal now has the chance to become an absolute legend at UFC 251

Jorge Masvidal really is the BMF.

Jorge Masvidal beat Nate Diaz last November to claim the “Baddest M————” belt at UFC 244.

Now he’s getting a chance at another title, the UFC welterweight belt, next weekend when he takes on the champ, Kamaru Usman, at UFC 251 on Fight Island/Abu Dhabi.

A win there, and it’s official – Masvidal is an absolute legend.

If you missed some UFC news the past few days while celebrating the 4th of July, then you might be asking why is Masvidal fighting Usman? Well, Usman was supposed to be fighting Gilbert Burns until Burns tested positive for Covid-19 before boarding a charter flight to Abu Dhabi on Friday. That fight was called off and left the UFC to scramble… and get the fight all fight fans really want to see – Usman vs. Masvidal.

Masvidal is now taking this fight on six days notice, which would be incredible for any fights stepping into a title fight. But the logistics make this one even more wild, as Masvidal will have to travel to Abu Dhabi, pass a series of Covid tests, and then fight for the belt in a bout that will be fought in Sunday morning local time.

BMF, indeed.

That’s a lot to put your body and mind through leading up to championship fight – especially with such little time to prepare for it – but Masvidal seems like the perfect fighter to pull this thing off. He’s always training and alway down for a scrap, as we’ve learned during his career both inside, and outside of the Octagon.

Masvidal has been on a quite a run lately. His last three fights have been a knockout of Darren Till in Till’s home country of England, then there was the 5-second flying-knee KO of Ben Askren, and the third round TKO of Diaz.

Masvidal’s stock has shot through the roof during that stretch and he’s since openly challenged the UFC about how fighters are paid. Hopefully he’s getting a big payday for this one, considering all that’s involved and how much better this main event has become with the addition of the BMF.

A win over Usman, and he’s a legend.
