Free agency is going to hit the Pittsburgh Steelers roster in a big way next offseason. There are going to be several big-name players potentially going elsewhere in free agency. One of those players is edge rusher Bud Dupree. If Dupree can duplicate or build on his 2019 season, he’s going to price himself out of a Steelers contract.
Does this mean a replacement pass rusher will be the team’s top priority in the 2021 NFL draft? The folks over at 24/7 Sports seem to think so. In their latest mock draft, they gave the Steelers Miami EDGE Quincy Roche.
Roche was the 2019 ACC Defensive Player of the Year with 13 sacks while playing at the University of Temple. No Roche will have a much larger stage to show off his skills.
The Steelers spent their 2020 third-round pick on edge rusher Alex Highsmith. Is adding a similar player a year later a prudent move? With Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy still on the board it is tempting to criticize the Roche pick given the Steelers could need a quarterback much more.
