Moments ago, Oklahoma got its man.
After landing Spencer Rattler in the 2019 recruiting class, Lincoln Riley has landed another No. 1 overall quarterback in Washington D.C. native Caleb Williams in the 2021 recruiting class.
Williams is rated as the No. 3 overall player in the 2021 class according to Rivals. Oklahoma has become the only school in the Rivals’ rankings era to land two No. 1 overall quarterbacks in three recruiting classes.
His sophomore highlight tape showed off his elite arm talent and ability to be a pocket passer. Williams’ junior highlight tape showed off his ability to be a game-changing player at the quarterback position.
Here is what his high school head coach, his quarterback coach and an analyst that has covered Williams say that Oklahoma is getting in the No. 1 overall quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class.
GONZAGA HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH RANDY TRIVERS
“I think they’re getting a unique weapon. A truly unique weapon. I think the quarterback position is … if you have a really elite player at that position, you always have a chance to be successful. Whoever gets this guy is going to get a unique weapon that is a uniquely versatile weapon physically and then also a unique weapon that can perform under the circumstances that you need a quarterback to perform. I think he’s physically versatile, but also has the uniqueness of the moment—the mental side of being able to perform under duress and circumstances and to be able to compete. I think that’s unique.
“I think that position is one if you have a special player at that position, you always have a chance. Your culture has a chance to be impacted strongly with that. I think he could be a program-altering talent, if you will, in his uniqueness.”
OWNER, FOUNDER OF QB FACTORY CHRIS BAUCIA
“A guy that is going to do all the little things right. Is not going to be an energy vampire, so he’s not going to suck any extra energy out of the coaching staff. And a guy who is going to compete on every single play so that he puts his team in the best position to win.”
RIVALS.COM EAST COAST RECRUITING ANALYST ADAM FRIEDMAN
“You’re getting a quarterback that has all the physical tools you can possibly want. He’s further along mentally than I think most quarterbacks that we’ve seen come through recently. And I think he’s a guy who is heading into almost a perfect situation for him. He’s got somebody ahead of him when he arrives that is going to make him work for playing time and make him work even harder and that’s going to drive the competitiveness in him. It’s going to make him work to get on the field. Rattler is not a pushover, but he is going to be there in his way and I think working to overcome that is going to really drive him to be the best that he can be. And the connection that Caleb has with Lincoln Riley, it’s just a unique situation that is almost a perfect fit.”
