If you’ve had the experience of scheduling a vacation to a Disney park, you know the expenses can add up pretty quickly. As the NBA moves ahead with its plan to house 22 teams in a “bubble” at Disney World in Orlando, the league is footing a huge bill to make the 2020 playoffs happen.
The 22 eligible teams will be housed in three major Disney resorts – the Gran Destino, Grand Floridian and the Yacht Club Resort. Players are expected to travel to Orlando before training camp begins on July 9th, with the regular season scheduled to resume on July 30th. The NBA Finals are set to begin on September 30th, which means that the two remaining teams that play for a title will spend upwards of two and a half months at Disney World before returning home.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on Tuesday that in all, the NBA is spending more than $150 million on its bubble plan.

“This is something I don’t think everybody understands. The Orlando bubble is costing the NBA more than $150 million dollars – more than $1.5 million dollars a day to put on. Not to mention all the lost revenue they have from not being able to sell tickets.”
$150 million is a lot of money, but it’s a small price to pay when the cost of canceling the season is well over a billion dollars.
