After losing Tom Brady to the NFC South this offseason, the New England Patriots decided to sign a former NFC South MVP to be his potential replacement. The Patriots caused a frenzy yesterday when they signed quarterback Cam Newton.
Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has reached agreement on a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the New England Patriots, league sources tell @mortreport and me.
Newton now will step into the mix to try to help replace former Patriots’ QB Tom Brady.

It’s the biggest quarterback signing this offseason since… well, Brady.
Newton played just two games last season before going down with a foot injury and landing on injured reserve. While he hasn’t been the Newton of old since his 2015 MVP season, in which he led the Carolina Panthers to Super Bowl 50, he just turned 31 last month and will now be playing for perhaps the greatest head coach in NFL history.
Maybe, like Brady, a change of scenery is all Newton needs to reignite his fire.
