The Wolverines are rocking and rolling in the 2021 class, with 18 verbal commitments as of current, and in the top ten according to all three recruiting services.

WolverinesWire is taking a look where the maize and blue rank as of June 23, especially with another touted four-star commitment who pledged over the weekend in Scottsdale (AZ) Saguaro defensive end Quintin Somerville.

247Sports

Michigan commit JJ McCarthy

The 247Sports Composite — which factors in 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals.com’s ratings — has the Wolverines sitting at No. 7 overall, bolstered by one five-star commitment in Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy’s J.J. McCarthy, eight four-stars and nine three-stars.

247Sports is the only service that has kicker/punter Tommy McDoman Jr. ranked, where he’s a three-star and ahead of NJ DE commit Tommy Giudice.

2021 Scottsdale (AZ) Saguaro four-star DE Quintin Somerville

ESPN has Michigan the lowest in the 2021 team rankings, at No. 8 overall. After the June 23 update, the Wolverines’ status remained unchanged, despite the addition of Somerville to the class, with Oregon moving up and LSU moving down.

The Worldwide Leader grants the maize and blue zero five-stars, eight four-stars and nine three-stars to go along with unranked kicker Tommy Doman Jr. Seven commits are in the ESPN 300. ESPN is also not nearly as high on TE Louis Hansen as the other services.

Rivals.com is the highest on the maize and blue, having the Wolverines at No. 6 overall in 2021, with zero five-stars, eight four-stars and nine three-stars — just like ESPN.

At the moment, Rivals only gives out five-stars to the top 18 players, and McCarthy is ranked No. 33 overall — his lowest ranking of the three recruiting services (ESPN has him at No. 24, while he’s No. 14 in the 247Sports Composite.

Rivals is high on most of the same targets as 247Sports, but is something of an outlier on the newest commit Quintin Somerville.
