Allen Robinson will make a case to be top-10 wide receiver in 2020

Allen Robinson is shaping himself for a big 2020 season, especially since he’s heading into his final year of his contract with the Bears.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson had a great 2019 where he totaled 98 receptions, 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns while seeing inconsistency at quarterback and being the main weapon featured in the offense.

Among the NFL, Robinson was ranked third in targets (154), tied sixth in first down receptions (63), seventh in receptions, 14th in yards and tied 16th in touchdowns. Robinson was also top-nine in success rate versus man coverage scores in 2019.

Players that saw more targets than Robinson was Michael Thomas and Julio Jones. Robinson would tie with DeAndre Hopkins in touchdowns but would surpass Jones, Keenan Allen, and Odell Beckham Jr. In yards, Robinson was 50 yards within top receivers Mike Evans, Amari Cooper and Hopkins, but would pass Beckham Jr.

Robinson has put up nice stats before like in 2015 with the Jacksonville Jaguars when he totaled 80 receptions, 1,400 yards and tied the league-high among wide receivers in touchdowns (14). The same issue throughout Robinson’s time with the Jaguars was the quarterback play with Blake Bortles and Chad Henne.

Another component that hurt Robinson’s case to solidify his chance as a top-10 wide receiver is the ACL tear in 2017. Robinson would miss the season after one catch for 17 yards. In 2018, where Robinson was coming off the torn ACL, he would suffer a groin injury that would make him miss two games, then a chest injury forces Robinson to miss the regular-season finale.

Before training camp starts, Robinson has working out as he’s been hitting the field with teammates. Turning 27 in August, Robinson is also getting his body right with Dr. Michael Risher after battling those 2018 injuries.

Robinson is shaping himself for a big 2020 season, especially since he’s heading into his final year of a three-year, $42 million contract that would make him an unrestricted free agent for 2021. Hopefully, the Bears top receiver can stay healthy and get consistent quarterback play from Mitchell Trubisky or Nick Foles, because if he can, Robinson will easily be ranked top-10 at his position in 2020.
