[autotag]Glover Teixeira[/autotag] has positioned himself as a title contender once again and he’s eyeing a fellow streaking light heavyweight for his next test.
Teixeira (31-7 MMA, 14-5 UFC) notched his fourth win in a row when he stopped Anthony Smith in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 29 in a “Performance of the Night” showing.
With light heavyweight champion Jon Jones currently in dispute with the UFC and threatening to vacate his belt, the title picture has been complicated somewhat. But, in the meantime, Teixeira said he is eyeing a matchup with fellow contender [autotag]Jan Blachowicz[/autotag] next, and said that he hopes victory over the Pole would be enough to earn him a second shot at UFC gold.
“In my opinion, I’m looking forward to fighting for the title,” Teixeira told MMA Junkie. “I want to fight Jan Blachowicz because we’re both coming from – I mean, I come from four wins in a row, I believe he coming from four, five wins in a row something like that and who am I to say who’s going to fight next?”
Numerous 205-pounders are vying for a title shot, but Teixeira thinks the likes of Dominick Reyes and Thiago Santos, who recently fought for the belt, should have to work their way back up.
“Those guys had their chance,” Teixeira said. “They went in there, they fought for the title and they lost and they gotta come back and we fight to get back in there again. You don’t get rematches for a title unless you’re the champion.”
“I think me and Blachowicz, we should fight and those guys have to fight to get wins, maybe Thiago and Reyes have to fight to see who’s gonna win and who’s gonna fight for the title next.”
