The Indianapolis Colts signed wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to a four-year rookie contract, the team announced Monday.
Pittman Jr. was just one of two draft picks for the Colts that had yet to sign his rookie deal. Now, the second-round pick is under contract through the 2024 season and will hopefully be making an immediate impact.
The USC product was highly regarded through the ranks of the coaching staff and the front office during the pre-draft process. Head coach Frank Reich even said he “isn’t sure [Pittman] isn’t the best wide receiver in the class.”
Pittman Jr. will be sliding into the X receiver role on the boundary while working as the No. 2 on the depth chart behind T.Y. Hilton. He has to earn that, of course, but no one on the roster has his skill set and talent.
The Colts believe Pittman Jr. has a very high ceiling and one that could eventually lead to him being the WR1 in the offense down the road.
With Pittman Jr. now signed, the Colts simply await the signing of their final draft pick in safety Julian Blackmon.
