Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is one of a few star players around the NFL yet to sign their franchise tags a month out from the deadline.
Green not putting ink to paper yet isn’t a surprise, though it’s notable to hear he’s alongside names like Dak Prescott and Yannick Ngakoue as superstars who haven’t done so, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The continued lack of a signature or a long-term agreement between the Bengals and Green further hints at his playing on the tag in 2020 while the front office prioritizes an extension for running back Joe Mixon.
Based on comments by Duke Tobin, Mixon is the priority.
Priority or not, a Mixon extension probably wouldn’t happen until after Green’s July 15 deadline.
One month out, things remain all quiet on this front — though that could change any moment (and this offseason has been a surprising one by the Bengals so far). Within a week of the deadline in July should prove interesting for both Green and Mixon.
Deadline to sign franchise players to long-term deals is one month from today.
Here are the franchise players who still haven’t signed their tender and are not required to report to camp: Dak Prescott, A.J. Green, Yannick Ngakoue, Chris Jones, Shaquil Barrett, Justin Simmons.
