Kevin Durant purchases 5% ownership stake in Philadelphia Union

Kevin Durant’s Thirty Five ventures will be working with the Philadelphia Union to help grow their brand.

Kevin Durant is officially a part-owner of a professional sports franchise.

On Monday, Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union announced that Durant purchased a 5% ownership stake in the club, “with the option to purchase an additional 5% in the near future.”

Additionally, Durant’s Thirty Five Ventures will be involved with the Union. Durant’s business will “focus on growing the Union footprint in the sports world, working closely with the Union on marketing opportunities, and expanding the Union’s community outreach in conjunction with the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation.”

Durant took to Twitter to let fans know his investment was official, and he also reflected on his decision as part of the Union’s statement announcing the move:

I’m excited to partner with the Philadelphia Union for years to come. My team and I connected instantly with the Union coaching staff and leadership, as well as the team’s story. Off the pitch, I’m looking forward to working in the Chester and Philadelphia communities and making an impact in the same way that the KDCF has been able to in my hometown of Prince George’s County.
