Bucs Wire: Brett Favre’s time with Vikings should worry Buccaneers fans

Bucs Wire thinks there are some similarities between Tom Brady coming to Tampa Bay and Brett Favre playing with Minnesota.

Brett Favre signed with the Vikings in 2009 and quickly showed that he could still play at a high level.

Favre threw for 4,202 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions en route to an appearance in the NFC Championship game.

Favre returned to the Vikings the following season, and he didn’t end up making as many positive memories for Vikings fans that year. He threw for 2,509 yards, 11 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. The team finished 6-10.

Our friends at Bucs Wire are worried about the parallels between Favre’s time in Minnesota and Tom Brady’s signing with Tampa Bay. Sure, maybe Brady could have a year where he appears as timeless as Favre’s 2009 season, but there’s also a chance that he could hit a wall in a short time.

Here’s some of what Bucs Wire’s Colin Liotta said:

“And, looking at Favre’s two-year stint with the Vikes, it’s easy to see how Brady’s career with the Bucs could follow the same path. Favre turned 40 during his first season with the Vikings in 2009, whereas Brady will be 43 when he starts his Bucs career.”

Here’s a thing Tampa Bay fans won’t have to worry about if Brady has a stint like Favre’s in Minnesota: forgetting about it anytime soon.

I think if the Vikings had the option to go back in time, they would sign Favre again. That 2009 year, despite the gut-punch loss dealt by the Saints in the playoffs, was a really fun year to watch.

Overall, if Tampa Bay can get close to a Super Bowl, like Minnesota did in 2009, I’d say the move would be worth it. Just ask Vikings fans about when Favre wore purple and gold.
