The 49ers in Week 10 of the 2011 season put some distance between themselves and the New York Giants in the race for a first-round bye and home field advantage in the playoffs. The Giants entered their game in San Francisco at 6-2, while the 49ers sat at 7-1 — both clubs were looking up at the 8-0 Green Bay Packers.
The home team pulled out a thrilling 27-20 win in a back-and-forth game that, in retrospect, made it clear that these two teams were bound to square off again in the playoffs.
Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee and Kyle Madson rewatched that Week 10, 2011 showdown between the 49ers and Giants and discussed it on the Candlestick Chronicles podcast.
The guys go over the NFC championship game foreshadowing that happens, Alex Smith’s strong showing, and some of the other aspects of the contest that stood out. They also dive into some of the television elements that stood out during the broadcast.
