Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald addressed the media on Friday and spoke about a number of topics, from the issues of race to visiting Minnesota to Christan Kirk to what he thinks about the talent on the roster.
He recently wrote an essay for the New York Times about the protests going on in the country and about racial injustice, police brutality and George Floyd’s death in police custody.
He was asked about kneeling for the national anthem, which has been a controversial topic since Colin Kaepernick first did it in 2016.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has come out saying it will support players in peaceful protest. Many more players are sure to kneel this year.
Will Fitzgerald be one of those players to peacefully protest racial injustice and police brutality once the season comes around?
“I have no idea,” he told reporters. “Our first game is not until August. It’s a long time. I think there will be players who will kneel. There will be players that stand. We will deal with that accordingly when the time comes.”
Fitzgerald has never been one to say or do anything at all controversial. If he were to choose to kneel in peaceful protest with other players like Kaepernick did, it would make a big statement.
