Oklahoma and Lon Kruger, along with the Big 12 conference, will be taking a mandatory off day from athletics on Election Day so the players and staff can vote.
The decision comes in light of the tragic death of George Floyd, which sparked protests and riots throughout the country.
Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger posted the release on Twitter, captioning it “We stand together. It’s time for a change.”
“This is a movement, not a moment…” the release read. “We are united in our decision to make Election Day a mandatory off day for Big 12 men’s basketball players. We will take action to encourage the young men we mentor to register and exercise their right to vote.”
All ten Big 12 head basketball coaches had their names attached to the notice.
Election Day will be on November 3, 2020. Oklahoma is scheduled to begin their 2020-21 season against Florida on December 2 barring cancellations or postponements.
