Many expected the Chicago Bears to bring in an experienced veteran quarterback this offseason to challenge and possibly replace incumbent starter Mitchell Trubisky, who struggled immensely in 2019.
But running back Tarik Cohen was shocked when the Bears decided to trade for veteran quarterback Nick Foles, a move that indicates that he’ll have a fair shot at winning the starting job.
Tarik Cohen said it was a 'shock' when the Bears acquired Nick Foles.

“We’re about to get the best out of everybody now,” Cohen told reporters Thursday. “Like Coach Nagy said, competition breeds success.”
Chicago’s offense was one of the worst in the NFL last season. And while the blame doesn’t fall entirely on Trubisky’s shoulders, his inconsistent play was a big reason why. The Bears chose not to pick up Trubisky’s fifth-year option, which should serve as a motivating factor for the young quarterback heading into his fourth season.
While this virtual offseason has prevented the Bears from getting on the field at Halas Hall, Trubisky has taken matters into his own hands. He’s been organizing workout sessions with offensive players that are currently in the Chicago area, where they’ve been focusing on routes and staying in shape ahead of training camp next month.
Cohen, who’s been among a handful of Bears players working with Trubisky this offseason, has nothing but praise for his quarterback.
"He's slinging it right now … You still see the talent in Mitch." — RB Tarik Cohen on Mitch Trubisky.

“He’s slinging it right now,” Cohen told reporters. “You still see the talent in Mitch.”
The hope remains that Trubisky will finally put it all together this season, which starts with beating out Foles, who isn’t necessarily at a disadvantage during this virtual offseason. Foles has experience in this type of offense during his time in Philadelphia and Kansas City.
Trubisky will get training camp and a possibly shortened preseason to show the Bears that he can be the quarterback they believed they drafted.
