One of the longshot contenders to make it into the playoffs in the Western Conference will have to do so without their best player. The San Antonio Spurs announced that their All-Star big man LaMarcus Aldridge is done for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery back in late April.

Aldridge, 34, averaged 18.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and attempted a career-high in 3-point attempts (3 per game) while shooting a very good 39% from the 3-point line. Aldridge also averaged a career-high of 1.6 blocks per game. As of last week, the sportsbook BetOnline gave the Spurs 18-1 odds to make the playoffs as the 8th seed, but that was before the injury to Aldridge.

Still, the Spurs are the Spurs, and you can’t exactly count them out, All-Star forward or not, even though their defense this season has simply been one of the worst in the NBA. The Spurs were invited to the 22-team restart in Orlando, but schedules for the remaining 8 games have yet to be released for every team.
